General Submissions are Open
We would love to publish more novellas! As we received fewer novella submissions than expected during our general submissions period, we are opening a special submission window just for them.
We are looking for bold, imaginative novellas of up to 50,000 words. Send us your strange girl fiction, folklore, feminist horror and uncanny tales. We want distinctive voices, unusual characters and stories that surprise, unsettle and stay with us.

Anthology Submissions are Open
Drawing on the success of our first shared-line anthology, By Morning, the Sea Had Taken It, Lemon Jelly Press is venturing into the woods for a new collection inspired by folklore and horror.
The trees hear everything.
They know what moves between the branches after dark. They remember the footsteps, the whispered warnings and the terrible things that happen beneath their leaves. When danger gathers in the shadows and stories become twisted, the forest knows the truth.
We want twisted fairy tales, ghosts and monsters, sinister forest folk, ancient trees and strange creatures up to no good. Send us stories and poems filled with dark paths, watchful woods and the things that wait beyond the firelight.
Every submission must end with the exact line:
The forest knows the true beast.
Submission details
Submissions are open from 16 August until 25 September 2026
Stories and poems must be no longer than 400 words
The required final line is included within the word count
We will not accept gratuitous violence, abuse, sexual content or gore
The anthology will be published in time for Halloween 2026

Every selected contributor will receive a free digital copy of the finished anthology and a 50% discount on any physical copies they wish to order.

Email Message
Please include a 150 word biography in third person telling us about yourself. Also include a short message about where you are based and any barriers you may have experienced in accessing publishing. These might include disability, neurodivergence, caring responsibilities or other personal or practical circumstances.

Attach your submission as a PDF file or a Google Doc.
Before sending, check that:
The file opens correctly
It is the right version
It is clearly named
