What we are looking for

Micro-Booklet Submissions are OPEN

We’ve refreshed our micro-booklet programme to make it simpler, fairer, and more useful for writers. Submissions are now open year-round for pieces up to 300 words in any genre, and we publish four micro-booklets each year.

You can submit for free (no feedback), or choose an optional feedback tier if you’d like editorial notes: £10 for a detailed written critique, or £30 for fast-track reading plus margin notes. Payment never affects editorial decisions.

Selected authors receive a £25 honorarium and 10 free author copies, with a contributor discount on extras. We also offer no-questions-asked bursary codes each quarter to keep the feedback tiers accessible.

We love tiny pieces with a big aftertaste — work that surprises, unsettles, delights, or reframes the everyday. Send us up to 300 words that carry voice, image, and intent.

We’re especially excited by:

  • Strange & unusual: uncanny moments, surreal pivots, fabulism, odd artefacts found in pockets.

  • New perspectives: voices we don’t hear enough; fresh angles on familiar themes.

  • LGBTQ+ writing: joy, nuance, mess, tenderness — across genres.

  • Mini-essays: sharply observed micro-nonfiction with a thesis (however small).

  • Food writing: taste as memory, recipe-as-map, kitchen table ethnography.

  • Folk & fairy: retellings, regional lore, modern myth stitched to the present.

  • Intersectional feminist work: power, care, labour, rage, repair.

  • Isle of Wight / pride-of-place: although we are open to submissions form anywhere, we love reading about the Ilse of Wight’s hyperlocal textures, coastlines, dialect, history, and everyday island life.

All genres welcome — flash fiction, prose poem, micro-essay, hybrid. Previously unpublished work only; simultaneous subs are fine (withdraw if accepted elsewhere).
