Women of the Wight

Women of the Wight is a heritage and storytelling project led by Lemon Jelly Press that celebrates the remarkable women who have shaped life on the Isle of Wight. The project honours women from both the past and the present, gathering their stories and preserving them for future generations.

Why We Are Running the Project

For too long, the achievements and experiences of women have been left out of our local history. Many women who contributed in powerful, meaningful and everyday ways were never recorded or remembered. We want to change that and make space for the women whose stories have been forgotten, overlooked or never told at all.

This project aims to shine a light on women across the Island, from well known community figures and creative voices to the quiet everyday changemakers who held families, streets, schools and neighbourhoods together. Every story matters and every woman leaves a legacy, whether history recorded it or not.

What We Want to Achieve

Women of the Wight will bring together real stories, memories, conversations and creative reflections from across the Island. These stories will be shaped into a beautifully designed book planned for publication in September 2026. Alongside the book, there will be a podcast series that shares interviews and lived experiences in a personal and intimate way. An exhibition will also travel around the Island so that communities can see and feel these stories brought to life.

Our hope is to build a sense of pride, belonging and connection. We want women and girls on the Isle of Wight to see themselves in these stories, to feel represented, and to know that their experiences matter too.

Be Part of It

Women of the Wight will continue to grow, with more voices, partners and stories becoming part of the project over time. We would love to keep you updated on how to get involved, opportunities to share a story and future events.

The best way to stay in touch and receive project updates is to sign up for our newsletter, where we will share announcements as the book, podcast and exhibition develop.
